RESULTS OF THE PANCYPRIAN SPECIAL SCHOOL COMPETITION ENTITLED "HELPING CHILDREN - HANDS UP FOR ALL"

The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation (YCF) would like to congratulate the teachers and the students of the Public Special Schools that participated in the Pancyprian Special School Competition entitled ‘HELPING CHILREN – HANDS UP FOR ALL’. Through the competition the YCF wanted to provide the opportunity to students with various disabilities or needs attending special schools to build on their creativity, interests and talents for the creation of various art or music related work that will convey the common values of equality, love, respect, friendship, inclusion, access etc.

 

All special schools have shown a great interest for participation and have worked really hard in order to send a wide range of entries: amazing songs and videos that show the work of the teachers and students, colourful drawings, 3D art work and many more. The assessment procedure was hard and the committee was faced with various challenges.

 

Based on the regulations of the ‘HANDS UP FOR ALL’ Competition, 3 main prizes of €17.000 was planned to be given to 3 winning schools: 1st prize of €10.000, 2nd prize of €5.000 and 3rd prize of €2.000. After careful consideration of all entries, and while acknowledging the effort and time that the teachers and the students have devoted, the YCF has decided that the 3rd prize of €2.000, will be awarded equally to the rest of the special schools. Therefore, the total amount to be given for the competition will be €27.000 (1st prize €10.000, 2nd prize €5.000 and 3rd prize €2.000 to the rest of the special schools that participated in the competition – 6 schools in total).

 

The winning schools that will receive the first two prizes are the following:

 

  • The 1st prize of €10.000 is awarded to ‘Eidiko Sholio Agios Spyridonas (Ειδικό Σχολείο Αγίου Σπυρίδωνα - Λάρνακα’ (Larnaca) for the video – song – lyrics ‘I create, I share, I love, That’s who I am’ (Δημιουργώ, Μοιράζομαι, Αγαπώ. Αυτό είμαι εγώ!). The main singers are Nefeli Antoniou, a talented young girl who finds it very very hard to speak but sings beautifully, Giorgos Anastasiou and Andry Kakoushi. The song was composed by Elena Eleftheriadou and the lyrics were written Andry Charalambous in cooperation with the students.

  • The 2nd prize of €5.000 is awarded to Eidiko Sholio Apostolos Varnavas (Ειδικό Σχολείο Αποστόλου Βαρνάβα) for the 3D art work titled: ‘From cooperation to love, from love to support and back to raising our hands up’ (Από την συνεργασία στην αγάπη, από την αγάπη στην αλληλεγγύη και ξανά όλοι τα χέρα ψηλά).

  • The 3rd prize of €2.000 is awarded equally to each of the 6 special schools that participated in the competition, so that each school will receive the above amount:

  • Eidiko Sholio Evaggelismos (Ειδικό Σχολείο Ευαγγελισμός) for the song ‘SIKOSE TA HERIA PSILA – Σήκωσε τα χέρια ψηλά’.

  • Eidiko Sholio Lefkosias (Ειδικό Σχολείο Λευκωσίας) for the video ‘Our children – Τα δικά μας παιδιά’

  • Sholi Kofon (Σχολή Κωφών Λευκωσίας) for the video ‘Ο κόσμος όλος μια σκηνή κι ο καθένας έχει ένα ρόλο να παίξει’

  • Eidiko Sholio Apostolos Loucas (Ειδικό Σχολείο Απόστολος Λουκάς) for the video …..321 launch’

  • Eidiko Sholio Theoskepasti Paphos (Ειδικό Σχολείο Θεοσκέπαστη Πάφος) for the Life raft ‘Learning knows no bounds’

  • Sholi Tiflon (Σχολή Τυφλών Λευκωσίας) for the art work ‘Όλη η αγάπη είναι στα χέρια μας, ας τη μοιραστούμε’

It is noted that all the above prizes will be utilized, as per the regulations of the competition, for the purchase of essential equipment, the improvement of the infrastructure or the upgrade of the facilities of the above schools, based on their needs and the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth.

 

The award ceremony of the competition will be organized after the beginning of the new academic year 2020-21 provided that this will be allowed by the guidelines of the Ministry of Health related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

#DearYianisThisChristmas – DECEMBER 2019

The ‘Yianis Christodoulou Foundation’ organized last December 2019 an open competition on social media among young people aiming to highlight the meaning of support, love and care for this Christmas, while giving happiness to families in Cyprus that are in need. The YCF gave the opportunity to 6 families who for various reasons live apart in other EU countries to spend this festive season together. Young people had the opportunity to send their own message Dear Yianis This Xmas ……..on social media and explain the reasons behind their wish to spend the Christmas holidays with their loved ones who live abroad.

Theofano, Katelin, Margarita, Efraim, Philippos and Orestis are the children for whom ‘Yianis Christodoulou Foundation’ borrowed Santa Claus’ slate and transferred to Cyprus the longed members of their family, aiming, thus, to complete their family warmness and help start the new year with the brightest smile on their faces. As a result, Theofano spent the holidays with her grandparents from Greece, Katelin with her cousins who have come from the UK, Margarita with her grandparents who live in Bulgaria, Efraim with his brother who works in Spain and Orestis with his dad who works in Greece. All winners had the opportunity to meet with the Founder, Mr Christodoulou, on the 27th of December to exchange wishes.

PANCYPRIAN SECONDARY SCHOOLS COMPETITION ENTITLED 'KEEP FIT AND HEALTHY THROUGH BOXING' – APRIL 2019

The 'Yianis Christodoulou Foundation' organised in February 2019 the Pancyprial Secondary School Competition, entitled 'Keep Fit and Healthy through Boxing' among Public Secondary and VET Schools.  A great number of posters with slogan were submitted indicating the interest and awareness of both students and teachers for the benefits of sports for the overall development of children.  The three winning schools that received the 3 prizes were: 1st Price €10.000 A’ Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training of Nicosia (Α’ Τεχνική και Επαγγελματική Σχολή Εκπαίδευσης και Κατάρτισης Λευκωσία), 2nd Price €5.000 Laniteio Lyceum Limassol (Λανίτειο Λύκειο Λεμεσού) and 3rd Price €2.000 Nikolaideio Gymnasium Paphos  (Νικολαϊδειο Γυμνάσιο Πάφου). The award ceremony was organised on the 4th of April 2019 at the A’ Technical and Vocational School of Nicosia in the presence of the Mr Christodoulou the Founder of the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, the Director of VET Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture and many other reputable guests.

CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION – DECEMBER 2018

The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation organised in November 2018 the Pancyprian Primary School Competition entitled ‘Christmas Card-Helping Children’. The Award Ceremony and the Exhibition of the Competition was organized on the 23rd of December 2018 at the Municipality of Nicosia. A great number of people attended the ceremony and congratulated the children and their teachers for the wonderful Christmas cards created which convey the Foundation’s aims, vision and mission. The participants had the opportunity to see a collection of Christmas cards drawings submitted for the Competition.

 

The Founder of the Yannis Christodoulou Foundation, Mr Christodoulou gave out the three prizes: the 1st prize of €10.000 was given to Paliometoho A’ Primary School, the 2nd prize of €5.000 was given to Makedonitissa C’ Primary School and the 3rd Prize of €2.000 to Geroskipou B’ Primary School.
